Tain Glamping sets out plans to increase accommodation offering at site

Jun 18, 2024

A GLAMPING company’s old mill base could be set for changes under plans submitted to Highland Council

Tain Glamping Ltd, which is based in The Old Mill in Tain’s Shore Road, has lodged proposals that could result in a bothy, glamping pod, residential flat and hot food takeaway being created on site.

The site is already home to three one, two and three-bedroom container holiday homes at the rear of the building.

And it looks set to expand that offering even further after it lodged the new plans, which include turning a workers’ break-out area inside the mill building into a bothy, transforming office space on the first floor into a flat, conversion of an unused shed into a hot food outlet, and placing of a one-bed holiday pod within a vacant yard space.

Under the proposals, which were lodged by Andy Maggs of Dingwall-based Redsix Architecture, an existing single-storey stone extension at the southern end of the mill building would be converted into a one-bed bothy, with kitchenette and separate toilet room.

The first-floor of the main building, which is accessed via a stone staircase from the roadside, would be turned into a two-bedroom flat, with an open-plan kitchen/dining/living area, and a separate bathroom. The existing free-standing ‘shed’ on the roadside – which currently has a Tain Glamping sign covering its entrance doorway – will be turned into the proposed hot food takeaway.

And the vacant yard space at the building’s northern end would be the site for the new holiday pod.

The business’ existing trio of container holiday homes, on the western side of the mill building, are not affected by the planning application.
